International Auto Salon: Atlantic City Convention Center
Date: 05/21/2004
SEMA International Auto Salon
May 21-23,
2004 marked the first time in history for the Specialty Equipment
Market Association (SEMA) to open the doors to the sport compact
car performance market in the east coast. The International
Auto Salon (IAS) filled 70,000 square feet of the Atlantic
City Convention Center and 150 SEMA members attended the event
to debut their best assets.
IAS featured
a trade only day and the next two days were open to both public
and trade. The newest brands, the hottest cars, and wicked
models from the east coast filled the convention center enticing
more show goers each day. Typically, the event takes center
stage in Los Angeles, California but was destined to progress
into the east coast.
From 1997,
SEMA examined retail sales in the eastern region and the auto
industry grew double digits each year by 52.2%. In 1997, retail
sales in the eastern auto sector recorded $295 million. In
2003, sales boosted to $3.2 billion.
So, what
really goes on at IAS? IAS always has something for everyone.
If you like to race, you test drove on the raceway during
drift sessions. If you’re from the industry, you sat
in educational seminars and discussed topics such as inventory
control. If you came to indulge yourself with import models,
you took pictures at every corner. If you came for the entertainment,
you definitely did not miss DJ Skribble and DJ Kid Capri scratch
away on their turntables.
Aside
from the live activity, Rennen International was there setting
themselves apart from the rest. From the glowing booth, sophisticated
staff, to the finest selection of new products, it was clear
Rennen was game. Impressed by its ambiance there were inquiries
made by buyers from all over the world. The most frequent
question asked was, “Is Rennen a German company?”
The answer is, “No. Rennen is New York based but German
engineered.”
From Silverback
Guerillaz (www.silverbackguerillaz.com), rappers Bang Em’
Smurf and Domination came to support Rennen’s Gangsta
Flip (GF) Onyx Rim. Catalogue cover model, Faye and both rappers
Bang Em’ Smurf and Domination sat around a table signing
autographs while fans waited patiently. Rennen models wrapped
themselves around the 2004 BMW M3 dressed with custom made
white Rennen DTM platform rims. The press and onlookers crowded
around to take pictures after pictures. More than ever, Rennen’s
booth was in sync and every question that was asked was answered
adequately.
With the
continuous growth of interest in the young generation of car
enthusiasts, there is no doubt this year’s IAS 2004
embarked a new movement toward the east and Rennen International
was there to mark their territory.
